Construction starts on one of Saint John Waterfront Condo Projects

For Immediate Release - July 31, 2006

(Saint John, NB) -  Construction has officially started today on one of the Waterfronts most prestigious Condo Projects.  Scotport Developments Inc. representative Philip McGavney will be on hand today at 2:30 pm along with Rideau Construction Vice President, Durk de Winter, and Mayor McFarlane to officially see the start of construction on the latest Saint John Waterfront Project.

Scotport has designed a very high quality complex which will contain features such as waterfront views from all units, solariums and top of the line kitchens to name a few.  Roberson’s Wharf will be linked to the ‘Inside Connection’ pedway system and will feature inside heated parking along with elevator access from the underground garage to all four floors.  Each condominium will also feature state-of- the-art security, sprinklers and alarm systems to ensure utmost peace of mind.

Designed by well-known local architect Robert Boyce, Robertson’s Wharf, located next to the five star Hilton Hotel, features one level, open concept homes ranging in size from 1030 square foot one bedroom units up to 1842 square foot two bedroom units, as well as three Penthouses.

Upon completion, the condominiums will be the personification of comfort, and elegance using high quality materials and professional expertise.

“We are expecting to complete construction by February 28, 2007 and have all units available for occupation at that time” said Mr. McGavney.  “Custom and personalized design features are available for each unit and only top-of-the-line materials are being used for exquisite interior finishing.  We are very pleased that Roberson’s Wharf will make its contribution to the vibrant Saint John Waterfront Development Strategy.”

Philip McGavney, Partner of Scotport Developments Inc. has been very impressed with the help and support received from Saint John Development Corporation and the Saint John Waterfront Development Partnership.

“The vision that has been created for the new Saint John Waterfront is very exciting, and it helps make our decisions to invest there much easier” he said.  “The pre-sales have been great with six units sold, and seven units remaining and we expect those to go fast now that construction has officially started.”

“We are delighted to see this development take shape on the waterfront”, affirmed Mayor Norm McFarlane.  “The momentum that has been generated through waterfront development efforts has made the downtown, and the waterfront in particular, a highly desirable place to lay down roots.”

Bill MacMackin, President of the Saint John Waterfront Development Partnership agreed.  “Creating a climate for renewal in the city and the waterfront in particular, is certainly paying off”, he said. “Investments such as the creation of Robertson’s Wharf act as a catalyst, bringing new development to the downtown.”

Charlie Swanton of the Saint John Development Corporation reiterated by pointing out that the last development to occur on the Market Square Development Site was the construction of the Hilton Hotel in the 1980’s and this new project is an example of our new strategy aimed at significantly increasing the tax base for the City.  Projects such as Robertson’s Wharf continue to contribute to the rejuvenation and renewal of Saint John and it's image and we are thrilled to see this project underway.”

The Robertson’s Wharf project joins a long list of new development projects taking shape on the Waterfront and Uptown including CenterBeam Place, The Bentley Crossing, the Cruise Terminal Facility announced by the Saint John Port Authority, and the new development proposal by the Hardman Group for the Coast Guard Site.
