May 12, 2004
(Saint John, NB) – Representatives from the Saint John Waterfront Development Partnership have been invited to Buffalo, New York to share their secrets of success on the formation of their Partnership that was launched in January 2001.
“We were delighted when we were approached by the Buffalo/Niagara Partnership to come to their community as their guests and showcase the initiatives here in Saint John”, remarked Bill MacMackin, President of the Waterfront Development Partnership. “We have been invited to meet with representatives from the Buffalo/Niagara Partnership, the local Chamber of Commerce, as well as municipal and state representatives. Our hosts have made all of the arrangements for us to visit and we will spend two days, May 12th and 13th sharing Saint John’s waterfront success story. We are extremely proud to lend a hand to a budding waterfront initiative.”
Ross Jefferson, General Manager of the Saint John Waterfront Development Partnership was also pleased with the prospect of introducing the Buffalo municipal leaders the Partnership’s success in Saint John.
“A great deal of hard work and commitment has paid off”, says Mr. Jefferson. “All six organizations in the Saint John Partnership are cooperating to launch a new era of community development focused specifically on the city's waterfront and the word is getting out. This will also provide a golden opportunity to make calls on developers in the Buffalo/Toronto area and showcase our waterfront development plan.”
The Saint John Waterfront Development Partnership consists of the City of Saint John, Enterprise Saint John, Saint John Board of Trade, Uptown Saint John and the Saint John Port Authority.
The Buffalo/Niagara Partnership combines the functions of a metro chamber of commerce, an economic development organization and a political action group to create the region's largest business organization with over 3,000 members. They engage in business advocacy, business development and business services for the benefit of their members and for the vitality of the Buffalo Niagara region. Development of Buffalo’s waterfront has recently moved front and center for the Buffalo/Niagara Partnership since the government’s infrastructure program has been actively working to improve roadway and access in the outer harbour area.
