Public invited to participate in exchange of ideas to refurbish and reinvigorate Market Square Boardwalk

For Immediate Release – October 30, 2008

(Saint John, NB) – With the resounding success of Harbour Passage to build upon, Saint John Waterfront Development is looking to revitalize Saint John’s original waterfront trail – the Market Square Boardwalk.

ADI Limited and O’Halloran Campbell Consultants, both part of ADI Group and original designers of the Market Square sea wall, have been engaged to produce a master plan concept for the redevelopment of the boardwalk, and to design the first phase of improvements.  The project also includes the redesign of a small park located directly behind the condominiums lining the boardwalk.

As part of the master planning process, the public is invited to an evening workshop to work directly with the project designers to identify issues with the existing boardwalk and develop a long term vision for its redevelopment.  The workshop will be held on Thursday, October 30th at 6:00 p.m. on the lower level of the Hilton Hotel in the Belleisle I & II rooms.  The workshop begins with a brief presentation by ADI Limited at 6:00 p.m. followed by an exchange of ideas with the public until 8:00 p.m.

“The boardwalk was created 25 years ago, however with the success of Harbour Passage connecting to each end of it, a rebirth is taking place,” says Michael Baldwin, General Manager of Saint John Waterfront Development.  “This is an open invitation for everyone to participate in the redevelopment of the boardwalk for the next 25 years.”

ADI architect and boardwalk redevelopment project manager Jean-Philippe Foisy echoes Baldwin’s sentiments, “The Market Square Boardwalk is an integral link between two phases of Harbour Passage and an important part of the Uptown’s vitality.  The boardwalk has the potential to be the jewel in the crown of Saint John’s waterfront trail system”.

Saint John Waterfront Development has the mandate to channel, focus, and direct the community of Greater Saint John’s collective energy and enthusiasm for waterfront development and to oversee the obligations of the Market Square complex.

ADI Limited offers architectural planning and design, consulting engineering services, project and construction management, environmental management, and design-build services to industries and governments.  The ADI group of companies, owned and based in Atlantic Canada, has projects in over 30 countries around the world.
